I've climbed a lot of hills over the years. Oh, numerous hills, of multiple heights — over my lifetime, in the last four years, during this pandemic, and in the last two months of my parents' fight against Covid. So today's poem, by the lovely Amanda Gorman, written for the inauguration of Joe Biden and recited with grace and passion, seems fitting.
To all of you who have been so supportive and kind as both my parents battled Covid, I'm pleased to finally report that, while their fight isn't over yet, they are both progressing and improving every day. Thank you.
The Poetry Friday round-up is being hosted this week by Laura Shovan.

Wasn't Amanda glorious!?
So glad to hear that your parents are improving, continued prayers ascending! 🕯🙏🏻🕯
Good to hear your parents are doing better! Everyone's talking about Amanda's amazing recitation -- her poise and style of delivery elevated her inspiring words. Not to mention she rocked that yellow coat and red headband :)!
Karen, I am so glad to hear that your parents are doing better. We must celebrate each day for the gifts that it brings. I am delighted that the world is currently basking in the healing power of poetry due to Amanda's glorious work- here's to infusing that in our schools and our young people.
I am happy that your parents are improving, a piece of good news along with our week of it, too is wonderful indeed. Yes, Amanda Gorman gave us all hope this week. Hugs to you, Karen, and to your family.
What good news that your parents are progressing. Thank you for that. And, what a celebration with and for and because of Amanda Gorman's poetry. I love, love, love the wonderful recognition of her talent and her presentation and oh, just everything. Thank you for sharing her beautiful performance.
Hi, Karen. I'm so glad to hear that your parents are healing from Covid. It has been such a scary time on many levels. I think of Amanda Gorman, in that sunny coat, reading her uplifting poem, and hope for good days ahead.
I'm so sorry your parents are ill! I'm glad they are recovering. What a nightmare but, if we're lucky, it just might be over later this year. I hope.
SO glad to hear that your parents are doing better!
Here's to the hill we've climbed, and the ones in our future that we will climb with hope and vigor!
I'm glad to hear your parents are improving. And yes, I can't get enough of Amanda Gorman's poem.
Yay for your parents recovering well!! Let's hope for a wee respite from hill-climbing. xo
Karen, with faith and prayer your parents are getting better. That is such marvelous news. Hill-climbing is a part of life but it is how we face the challenge that makes the difference. God bless your parents.
I remember when my husband and I were on a bicycle trip once, and every time we would ask people if there were a lot of hills ahead, they would always say no, no hills, it's very flat. And then we would find that they were completely wrong. Because hills seem really different in a car from the way they seem on a bicycle. We have had SO many hills to climb lately, and we have been on bicycles, or on foot, or maybe crawling on our knees. I'm so glad your parents are doing better.
