Good Friday

Read more about Good Friday here and here.

Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh,
Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

Were you there when they nailed him to the tree?
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree?
Oh,
Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree?

Were you there when they pierced him in the side?
Were you there when they pierced him in the side?
Oh,
Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they pierced him in the side?

Were you there when they laid him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb?
Oh,
Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb?

I have to admit that, being somewhat more traditionally-minded, I don't care for music like this piece in Catholic liturgy. However, I spent the Triduum of 2003 in a midwestern cathedral in which a great choir featuring a singer trained in both formal singing and gospel sang it. Chills.

I've heard this sung in lots of different ways, and with the exception of a badly trained cantor accompanied by a choir direction playing piano in a hawaiian shirt(!), it usually touches me deeply. That 'tremble' refrain gives me chills, too! Thanks for sharing; I'm not sure I'll be able to make it to services tonight (oh the life of a mom!) but I'll have these words in my heart.

I love this song. I also love the song (can't remember the name) where Christ asks Peter to feed his sheep/lamb for Him.

Thanks for posting this!
