Poetry Friday: It's National Poetry Month and I've got the Poetry Month Blues

It happens every year. April is a busy time for me. The reasons vary, but the fact remains the same. I never ever tackle National Poetry Month with the verve I intend and desire. (Past lamentation posts here.)

Case in point: four years ago, I wrote this poem near the end of NPM. In keeping with today's theme of "I'm too busy, I'm too busy!" I haven't even written a new poem about National Poetry Month. I'm simply re-running this old one.  🙂

But, as the poem declares, that's okay. Every week is Poetry Week (well, except last week, when I was too busy to post. Arrgh!)

Enough. The past is the past. Onward!

Happy National Poetry Month! And for more about what's happening with KidLit bloggers everywhere, check out Jama Rattigan's comprehensive post. Thanks, Jama!

Poetry Month Blues

Another April — Poetry Month! —
slipping through my fingers.
Failed plans, lack of sharing ...
Oh, the guilt in me lingers.

"Next year will be different!"
I shout out with conviction.
Really? Inner Me sneers,
that's a doubtful prediction.

Who knows? Should I worry?
I think not, you see.
Every Friday's poetry day.
That's just Weekly Me.

I know just how you feel. April is indeed a busy month! And like you, I consider every week poetry week. Still, the pressure is there to do something.

Love it! The "weekly me" is terrific.

I totally get this. Thanks for resharing this poem. It was needed.

Yes! This year it's a home renovation for me, but it seems there's always something. Preparing the garden is taking some precedence also. So thanks for this, I agree with Jone... it is needed.

It's okay, Karen, I'm glad to be reminded that IT IS OKAY to be so busy that the writing slips away. I always enjoy your posts when they arrive! Have a nice weekend!

Yup. I have to remind myself every year that it's OK to just enjoy. It really is. I love that you wrote about it.

Yay for our weekly PF pick-me-ups - reading poetry is just as important as writing it!
Remember to give yourself grace (my olw for 2022). Your poem is worth resharing. :)

My April is busy too - most of my creative output is going for work deadlines this month, but I'm enjoying reading everyone else's posts. Thanks for sharing this one with us!

The hardest thing for me is to get out of my own head/project and see what everyone else is doing and comment!

And here I am on WEDNESDAY to congratulate you on thinking ahead last year so that you'd be ready for this eventuality this year! It's all good, except for the FOMO, right, Karen? : )
