Poetry Friday: Only This Morning

I love the immediacy of this poem by Dan Gerber, and its simple truth.

Wishing you a good morning, this morning, "the only day that matters."

Only This Morning
by Dan Gerber

In a hundred trillion years—
an actual number
though we can’t begin
to grasp it—the last traces
of our universe will be not
even a memory
with no memory to lament it.

*In case you missed it, last week I shared the poem that Insanely Talented Tabatha wrote for me last summer, for the Poem Swap. You can read it here

Ooh, lovely - the only day that matters is today.

Very nice! The image of the thirsty filly is so immediate and pressing. It really pulls you back to today.

Tabatha, yes -- I love the lines

as if it matters more
than anything in the universe—
and it does—at this moment

This poem fits with the Poetry Princesses Minor Miracle poems this month! (I kind of think mine does, too!)

This is absolutely a minor miracle poem....the hugeness of time brought into focus by the tender little filly was sharp and crisp. I love that you shared this new-to-me poem this week. Thank you.

It does connect beautifully with the Poetry Sisters' poems. What a great poem to remember every day, like others, that "as if it matters more
than anything in the universe"

Thanks, Karen, I printed it out!

Mary Lee, Linda, and Linda -- yes, I agree! A minor miracle indeed, and fitting with the theme of the Poetry Sisters this time around. (I so love their work!) Thanks for stopping by to share the moment with me. :)
