It's not you, it's me

Sometimes I want to break up with every blog I know, just because I can't get through the word verification.

This morning, in an attempt to catch up with bloggish friends rather than do my own blogging, I was bouncing around the internet, leaving comments here and there.

I know that I entered all of those word verifications correctly, and still, Blogger made me repeat myself. It made me stutter and try again, and feel like a blundering idiot.

So, hey, wait a minute. It's not me. It's you, Blogger. I don't want to walk out on this relationship, so shape up, buddy.

I recently removed my word verification. I realized it was probably more of a pain to people than it was worth. If I find I'm getting a lot of automated comments (don't have any yet) then maybe I'll reconsider.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with that problem. I've put moderated comments on mine mainly because of the problem I've seen other blogs have when the comments aren't moderated. I'm sure that some of the bloggers wouldn't let some of the comments past them if they were actually moderating them, but if they don't moderate some pretty nasty stuff gets posted. I've never actually had a nasty comment (probably because, unlike you and some other bloggrs, I just don't get them many readers or commenters), but I figure that if I'm going to complain about unmoderated sites I'd better not have one.

I ended up using a form of moderation, but only after getting spam from book review companies ("If you liked this book come see the more than 4,000 titles on OUR website"), not to mention my friends in Brasil who want me to use their ISPs, or something (my Portugese is a little rusty).

But I'm with you on the "Why the heck won't Blogger let me in" frustrations. I am constantly having to retype my password, for no good reason.

cheers / sheila

Okay we are living parallel lives because today...I too...was trying to give back to people who visit my blog and I thought my head was going to explode with those word verifications. I just recently bought my first reading glasses and trying to adjust to having them with me all the time. I'm facing it.
I'm old.
(Love your blog)

Well, there you go - just the reminder I needed to take word verification down. I'd put it up again after a particularily obnoxious bout of spam, but I HATE word verification.

I used to think I was seeing the letters wrong...after all, they are all squiggly and all that. But I finally decided it was blogger, not me.

I know why people use word verification, and sometimes it's necessary. But the other thing about it is that it makes it harder for people who are blind to leave comments.

I am definitely glad that I use moderation, though, as I get some comments that are just spam and have nothing to do with my post.

Thanks for sharing that, Karen, so we know we're not crazy. :)

The worst is when I have to retype the verification on my OWN blog. I didn't realize you could take it off your own site. Will definitely want to check that out.

Thanks for persevering, Karen!

Oh, good, I'm not the only one! Typepad is worse though--it's harder to read!

I can't remember if I have word verification on my blog or not. However, when it comes to word verification on other blogs, I have come to terms with the fact that I am truly an automated robot who was switched with a human baby at birth.

Great, I don't have word verification. At least I can comment on my own blog. :)
(I also don't have comment moderation, mostly because I only have about 3 people who regularly comment.)
