Reversing our crankiness

We were cranky this morning.

We were all rather cranky except Atticus, who by all rights should have been cranky, because what looked like a snow-day-in-the-making was merely a late-start-day at school.

After Atticus shoveled several inches of snow off the driveway, downed a cup of coffee, and grabbed his peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich, he headed cheerfully out the door and general crankiness continued.

The girls and I did our morning prayers. That always helps us to focus, and reminds us of our priorities and that it's important to be kind to one another.

Then, I put on one of the best battlers of crankiness known to man: music.

It has power to soothe the savage.

(I know that's not the complete quote, but at our house, it fits.)

A personal favorite, a song that helps me to pull back, reflect, tear up and ooze with love for my children is Michael Card's "All You Are" from his Sleep Sound in Jesus album.

That's just what I did: I teared up and oozed with love. And isn't it amazing that Mom's attitude flows out and over and around everyone else?

Amazing.

And scary.

All a clever subterfuge, believe me. I was in a truly foul mood.
