Poetry Friday: Billy Collins, for Mother's Day

Dear Mom,

Happy Mother's Day! In addition to that T-shirt with the names of all your grandchildren, I'm giving you Billy Collins, reading "The Lanyard."

(We're still not even.)

The Poetry Friday round up is at Family Bookshelf today.

Love it!

A Billy Collins poem I'd not met yet, what a treat.

I'm stealing it to pass on to my mom. She's a Billy fan too.

This is one of my favorite poems, and I'm so glad you posted a video of Billy reading it, because his delivery is what makes the whole thing. The first time I heard of this poem was at one of his readings, and I don't think it would have left the same impression if I'd just read it on the page.

Thanks for this post!

You do know that he has a new book out? It's fabulous, as usual.

Oh how I love Billy Collins and especially this poem! Thanks for sharing it here. (I reposted it on facebook.) My 14 year old couldn't stop laughing when he heard it. :) Happy Mother's Day, Karen!
