On her birthday, I put her to bed and whispered, "By the way .... "
"What?" she whispered back, eager to be in on the conspiracy.
"Happy birthday, one more time," I whispered.
She smiled and kissed me -- a big, smacky kiss on the cheek -- and said, "And, to seal it? A hug!" She threw her arms around me and we laughed, and she settled back in to her bed.
Looking up at me, she said, "Mommy, you're lucky to have such a daughter."
I'll teach her humility when she's older.
For now? All I can say is "Yes, Ramona, you are so right. I am lucky to have such a daughter."
