Sharing the joys of books

We've successfully introduced Ramona to this beautiful book. She asked for it before bedtime last night. The story is simple, but so imaginatively handled, and the illustrations are a lovely combination of beauty and sweetness. To read more about the author, Barbara Helen Berger, and the book, see this site.

One of the things that thrills me in introducing my children to beloved books is not just that they come to love the stories, but that they begin to recognize authors as the unique people who created the unique stories they love. Recently, at the library, three-year-old Ramona was heard to say (upon siting the cover art on a book she hadn't read), "Oh! Look! It's Jim O-nosky!" It was indeed, though not a Jim Arnosky that she'd seen before. I love that.
