We've been so busy here! And now I've got bronchitis, so I'm too tired to be interesting. I plan to fill you in on everything next week, but for now I'm dropping this glorious Linda Pastan poem about books. ❤️
The Bookstall
by Linda Pastan
Just looking at them
I grow greedy, as if they were
freshly baked loaves
waiting on their shelves
to be broken open—that one
and that—and I make my choice
in a mood of exalted luck,
browsing among them
like a cow in sweetest pasture.

Linda Pastan is such a treat! "Every book
its own receding horizon." *happy sigh* Hope you're feeling better soon! Bronchitis can be a bear. xo
You always share the best poems! Love me a little Pastan on a Friday . . . hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, Tabatha! Yes, she's so good.
Thanks, Jama! Pastan perpetually! :D
ooooof! Sorry about the bronchitis. I've realized that I simply cannot attend to all that someone, somewhere, sometime, maybe me thinks I should. I wish I could. But, the truth is, I can only do what I can do a little at a time. I'm wishing you some good rest and thank you for sharing this poem. I do love Linda Pastan.
That's so true, Linda. This particular time was a joyful occasion but a super busy one! :) I don't do super-busy as easily as I used to. ;)
Too tired to be interesting!! I know exactly what that is like. Much sympathy my dear, and praying you will be well *soon* 🕊️
Thank you, Karen. I love Linda Pastan's work. Hope you feel better soon!
Karen, thank you for this lovely Pastan poem. Now--rest up! Take care of YOURSELF! Catch us all up when you're able, but take the time to make sure you're able. xo
Linda, I am so sorry that you have bronchitis. Take care of yourself. The Linda Pastan poem is filled with great word choice and imagery. I found a great quote that gives me time to ponder “The public needs poetry; I need poetry, to help celebrate and console.” Thanks.
This poem is great! Thank you so much for sharing it. I definitely relate to this feeling of open worlds and possibilities when walking into a bookstore. I hope you feel better soon!
Karen, as I clean out my classroom for retirement, it is the books that hold the heaviest weight. Do I leave them? Do I take them? Do I need them? "a curious ballast."
My immortality is assured, if you judge by how many books are in this house!
"For life is continuous
as long as they wait
to be read"
Oh, this poem speaks to me! The love for books is precious, and Pastan conveys it so well. I was also enamored of the description of her writing process found on the page you referred us to. I often feel "gifted" with words as they come to me out of nowhere, often at night. I deleted my prior comment so you'd know it was me (old email)
How lovely, refreshing, and filled with surprise, thanks Karen! Sending healing ❤️🩹 thoughts your way, and hope you feel much better!
Oof, hope you're feeling better, I've been off all week with a nasty chest bug, something's going around! Apparently my son is the generous type, because he seems to bring home every bug from kindergarten and share it with the entire family. ;)
