Poetry Friday: I'm Hosting! (And getting this post up on Thursday evening for you plan-ahead types.)

We're anticipating a snow day tomorrow as Winter Storm Quid (really?) makes its way across the country. Personally, I'm tired of Winter Storm Fill-in-Silly-Name and I'm ready for Spring-Day-That-Is-Insanely-Lovely.

Oh, wait. We got that on Tuesday of this week when it was 70 degrees. Quota met for February, I guess. Moving on to another revolution of snow. At least we have Billy Collins to keep us company.

Snow Day
by Billy Collins

Today we woke up to a revolution of snow,
its white flag waving over everything,
the landscape vanished,
not a single mouse to punctuate the blankness,
....

I have the round up today!

Mr. Linky is handling the links for me:

Thanks for stopping by!

Karen, I wish I could teleport you to Alabama where there is not a winter storm in sight! And yes, Billy Collins is a good snow day companion, methinks. Stay warm... and thank you for hosting!

Thanks for hosting! I always love Billy Collins. If you want to come even further south than Alabama, Haiti is lovely this time of year!

Can't say I envy your anticipating more snow tomorrow. We've been virtually snowless here in Virginia. Still, the Billy Collins poem is delightful to read (love all those school names!). Thanks so much for hosting this week!! Stay warm and cozy.

I'm channeling Billy Collins this week, too! A double dose will do us good!

LOVE! You just can't go wrong with Billy Collins. That poem is such a fav. Thank you for sharing that one. And, thank you for hosting with an early start on Thursday evening. I do love to have Poetry Friday all set the night before so that on Friday I can run out to the recess of reading as many entries as I can pack in my time. If you'd like some lovely spring head over to my house....a blistering 79 degrees on my ride home from school today. Let me tell you, a middle school with no circulating air on a 79 degree day...it's not at all pretty. Fortunately, we had lots of classes outside for recess and run around time. Have a great week and again, thank you!

Oh karen, what a perfect poem for a snowy day (although of course not having ever seen snow, I am probably not qualified to say that). Billy Collins is a genius.

Loved the Billy Collins poem. I'm really having to use my imagination because it's 77 degrees and almost 8 p.m. in Texas.

Thanks so much for hosting.

Love the poem, Karen - thanks for sharing! (and for hosting!) I find it odd they name your winter storms out there...they never do that with ours, no matter ho bad they get. We've been enjoying the 60s today - a nice change of pace, considering we got hit with three storms in the past week and a half!

My link goes live just after midnight. Enjoy your weekend!

We actually had a "Spring-Day-That-Is-Insanely-Lovely" - finally, after a horribly cold and snowy winter! Here's hoping that your snowy days are soon to be over - this winter has really been a doozy!!

We would dearly love some snow! None yet this winter. Thanks for hosting, Karen! xo

And I am tired of Summer-day-that's-slick-and-sweaty and would love some Autumn-oh-don't-leave-us-yet weather... :) Funnily enough, the pic on my blog today has some Autumn tones, to add a bit of colour to your winter white.

Karen, a revolution of snow blows hard to knock many off kilter. We had our share last week. Maybe the best advice is to follow Billy Collins' words: "And now I am listening hard in the grandiose silence of the snow." Stay warm, Karen and thanks for hosting today.

We have had spectacular spring-like weather! I do hope there are no snow days in our future. Thanks for hosting today and for sharing the masterful work of Billy Collins!

Thanks for hosting, Karen! Billy Collins is a true master. That poor small queen about to be brought down. Love the dog porpoising. I can see it. I long to be that good. I'm am longing for spring.

Billy Collins speaks for us every time. We have snow today too, Karen, but not enough for a 'snow day". Enjoy! Thanks for the poem and for hosting!

What better way to celebrate a snow day than with poetry friends? (Especially when Billy Collins is invited.) Thanks for hosting, Karen!

I'm with you, Karen ... Quid? What? They say we may have snow the first of the week... but, I'm heading for a warm spot near the equator for a few days! Hopefully, winter will be over when I return. Thanks for hosting.

Thanks for hosting! I'm a little jealous of you , having a snow day. We have snow in Colorado, but not enough to close school, just enough to make it hard to get there! I was surprised at the direction the Billy Collins' poem went- it feels like he wrote this at the end of winter, and was feeling just like you are about yet another snow storm.

Mandy said...

Thanks for hosting - Oh I wish I was sitting and waiting for snow storm but we've moved on to spring which worries me snow might return - it's early.

Billy Collins is always a favorite and in the midst of our recent spate of snow days, I had reread this one recently. I've always loved the line "and the dog will porpoise through the drifts" as it brings to mind my sweet dog and her exuberant enjoyment of all things snowy. In her day she could porpoise with the best of them! (Porpoise as a verb= Billy Collins brilliance!) Thanks so much for hosting today!

A Billy Collins poem is always a tonic. Thanks for this one, Karen. I'm another one who is enjoying 60 degree temperatures, but I'm sure we will be blasted by more winter before long.

Good morning and thanks for hosting, Karen! I'm in a hurry and can't see Mr. Linky on my school computer, so would you put mine up please? Thanks!

Hello Karen,

Thanks for the link - the last line of "Snow Day" by Billy Collins is a zinger!

Appreciations for wafting coolness to us in North Florida (82 yesterday), with this poem's thoughts of the world buried under snow.

And more thanks, for hosting.

Good luck with friend (enemy?) Quid (maybe from quid pro quo?)

That could be job for a poem-maker, naming storms, hurricanes, & the like.

Thank you for sharing this Billy Collins. We've got snow threatening here too and really are waiting to hear if De La Salle North Catholic will be closed like Ding Dong School! Thanks for hosting us, friend.

Thank you for hosting! Every day beginning with Billy Collins is a good day! I love your daughter's words about LITTLE WOMEN in an earlier post too. They will stay with me. Beautiful. Happy Poetry Friday! xx

Karen,

Thanks for doing the roundup this week!

At Wild Rose Reader, I have a poem by Christina Rossetti in memory of my mother who passed away on January 5th. Along with the poem, I posted some pictures of my beloved mother.

Maybe the snow day will give you a good excuse to curl up with some more Billy Collins! We have those warm temps today, but snow is also in our forecast for Indiana. Crazy weather this winter. My poor blooming bulbs won't know what to do.

Thanks for hosting, and for that fun romp in the snow. Where Collins took us--what a surprise. Those little girls whispering by the fence about which queen to take down for the day... I remember that!

Donna Smith said...

Thanks for hosting! We're still snow covered and chillin'. It's been nice lately though, and snow has lowered some. I'm sure we'll be getting more!

Thanks for being here today, Karen! We're having weird weather in Wisconsin, too: 70 degrees in February broke all kinds of records & melted all our snow. We had thunder & lightning last night, & now we're back to "normal" temperatures. Looking forward to spring!

tanita✿davis said...

We'll take that 70 degrees - it's freezing here, with frost on the ground, and after a week of wild storms and wind, rising floods and roads washing out, the cold and clear is lovely and beautiful, but requires hats, gloves, and scarves! Ah, well. Enjoy your snow day!

Thanks for hosting Poetry Friday Karen! And for directing us over to this wonderful snowy poem by Billy Collins. I actually receive daily emails from the Poetry Foundation, but don't always get to look at all of them, and this is one I'm glad I didn't miss. What a fun rollicking romp of the kids schools, and the three girls whatever they will unleash . . .

Thanks for stopping by, everyone! Fun to share Billy Collins with you, and to get the many and varied weather reports from around the country. It was definitely a good day to curl up with a book, and today I plan to curl up with my laptop and Poetry Friday posts. :)
