Bits and Pieces of Our Days

Hey, I think it's 2017.

I'm not sure, though, because we've been on Christmas vacation, and the days tend to blur, one into another. Today, Ramona and I worked on gluing (frostinging?) some gingerbread houses together.

On Christmas Eve, the girls and I shared our 9th annual (really?) Harry Potter Christmas fan fics. Anne-with-an-e first came up with the idea in 2008, and we've done it every year since. We each write a Harry Potter fan fic sometime during Advent (I think this year we all scribbled them out on December 23rd), then we share them with each other over Christmas Eve dinner. Some years the stories have been silly, some years serious. This year everyone went for funny, and it was delightful.

Christmas break has also included hanging out, visiting my parents (who now live less than two hours away from us! Instead of two days away! Hurray!), reading, introducing Ramona to Doctor Who and taking utter delight in her delight in it, reading some more, eating, drinking wine, making booklists, more hanging out, watching Doctor Who (oh, did I say that? We've watched a lot of Doctor Who), avoiding exercise, going to the movies (Moana, Rogue One), talking about Lin-Manuel Miranda, taking Ramona to play practice (her last year in the youth choir play as a performer, a bittersweet thing), and loving that my husband has a Christmas break.

New Year's Eve was another lovely family night that included playing TelePictionary and laughing so hard I thought I was going to pass out.

2017 is off to a good start.

Tele-pictionary? Sounds delightful!

NINE YEARS you've been doing the HP ff. Amazing. What a family collection you have by now!!

Our family hasn't read Harry yet. Not a one of us. I feel like it's a tsunami wave that's just about the crest and swallow us all!

Dom and I ushered in the new year watching Dr Who. I'm simultaneously catching up on the Matt Smith seasons and watching the new Peter Capaldi ones (I can never remember the numbers.) Our kids are definitely too young, being of the rather easily frightened breed. Ditto for Harry Potter. Some day....

But Dom has been showing them the original Star Wars as well as The Force Awakens (ignoring the existence of the prequels) and that geek has taken over our house quite well. Sophie and Bella have been keeping diaries in the personas of Kylo Ren and Princess Leia, respectively. Diaries which I have not been allowed to even peek at. I'm dying and seriously thinking about sneaking just a little look. But no I'll respect their privacy. Their first fan fic!

Lissa, Telepictionary is so much fun. I'll post a description, in case you're not familiar with how to play. And yes, this year it was fun to sit around and reread old fan fics. I pack the stack away with the Christmas stuff every year, and it's fun to revisit it.

Kortney, you have delights awaiting you! :)

Melanie, I've only seen one of the Capaldi seasons. I'd been looking for time to catch up on the latest one with Anne and Betsy, but at this point, I think we'll all just wait and watch it with Ramona when she gets caught up. My girls have always been sensitive, too, so waiting on stuff and doing it on their timetable is so important. Love that they are keeping Star Wars diaries! How fun!

I was going to ask about tele-pictionary, too!

Harry Potter fan fics sound wonderful :-)

We saw Arrival and La La Land. I liked both, but I was really struck by Arrival.

I definitely want to hear about Tele-Pictionary. And aren't you lucky now -- you have a free idea for a whole blog post!

Our family rang in New Year's Eve at the home of Darwin and MrsDarwin (of DarwinCatholic blog) -- they are kind of on the way home from where we spend Christmas. Since we each have a passel of kids of approximately the same age range, it's a ton of fun.

Tabatha, I really want to see Arrival, too. I think it came and went from our small town theater too fast!
bearing, yes, it was a free post! Yesterday! :)
Ruth, thanks, and Happy New Year to you, too!
