A question for my male readers

I'm doing a scientific survey.

Do men eat cookie dough?

Inquiring feminine Edmisten minds want to know.

Atticus insists that it's a purely chromosomal phenomenon. He says the cookie dough gene is carried on the second X chromosome along with the genes for calling houses "cute" and saying, "Let's meet for lunch!"

Let us know, guys.

Well, I'm not male, but I think I can speak for my husband, who would just about prefer I hand him the mixing bowl and a spoon than I bother going to the work of baking the cookies. Sorry, Atticus.

My husband does not eat cookie dough and like Atticus thinks it's a girly thing. But my little brother eats cookie dough.

Confirmed - he just told me that he's bought a tube of slice and bake from the store just to eat the dough. (pre-me days, thankfully) And he does all kinds of manly things like moving cattle and driving a tractor for a living plus hunts and fishes in his (ha!) free time.

My husband--no way. My adult sons, however, love the dough.

No male cookie dough eater here, though I only have a sample of one ;). He won't even eat cookie dough ice cream (or any ice cream other than vanilla, come to that).

Well, I'm obviously a female reader but I'll report on the males in my house. My husband wouldn't eat raw cookie dough ever. No way. But my boys would devour it before I ever got any onto the cookie sheet if they had their way. Is shunning the cookie dough societal conditioning as they grow older???? ;)

My husband will only eat cookie dough. He hates cookies but loves the dough. My son eats both.

My dad loves cookie dough. He has me make dough just for him to eat it!

Not only does my husband eat cookie dough, he brings home rolls of it from the grocers!

(I dislike this habit. It's bad for my hips.)

My husband LOVES to eat cookie dough. He'll even eat oatmeal cookie dough. (eww)

My hubby thinks any dough of any kind is gross if it's not cooked. What's up with that?

My husband agrees with Atticus. He'd rather eat baked cookies. Not into the dough stuff.

Now I understand why he never wanted to get the cookie dough ice cream.

My husband eats cookie dough--not nearly as much as I do though! He also prefers that his actual cookies be half dough, so that sort of counts too.

I was curious about this so I popped over to read the comments from my Reader.

I dislike cookie dough but my husband loves it!

My hubby and my father are both of the opinion that it really isn't worth the bother of baking the cookie dough. Just a spoon and a bowl (or a spoon and a tube of slice and bake) works just fine. Not sure about my father-in-law, but I think he might prefer them baked.

Ix-nay on the aw-eggs-ray.

This male loves cooked, homemade chocolate chip cookies, though. Mmmmmmm, 20fresh HCCC's in one sitting. If it weren't the capital sin of gluttony, a heavenly way to go. ;-) I'll bet KE agrees.

I am a female reader, but I asked my boyfriend and he says he'll eat it if there's no egg in it.

(His mom used to be a nurse. Of course, my mom used to be a pharmacist and she lets us eat things with raw egg in them.)

Skysaw and Sojourner, I use the pasteurized egg substitute in cookie dough, so we can eat to our hearts' content (just not to the point of gluttony ....) :)

And the egg substitute doesn't hurt the taste of the cookies at all, if reactions to my cookies are any kind of reliable test. :)

I have never seen my hubby eat raw cookie dough. He is Japanese, though, so it could be a cultural difference. Raw eggs are not the issue, since we eat raw eggs all the time here in Japan.

It could be that he just misses out because I usually make them on weekdays while he is at work, and there is nothing left of it by the time the rest of it have our share (and still manage to bake a few).

My husband definitely eats cookie dough! If I want to make cookies I had better make them from scratch because if we buy the rolls of dough from the store there is often not enough left to bake after he gets ahold of it!

Atticus' theory isn't doing so well...

Here in our house I'm the one who would rather eat my cookies, well, cooked. My husband is the one who prefers the dough.

Ed says, "Why would anyone eat the dough when you could bake it and eat the cookies?"
What does he know? The rest of us love cookie dough, including my sons. And raw egg does not bother us at all.

Well here in Michigan, my husband and both sons do not eat cookie dough. If I want to bake cookies and don't have the time, I will make the dough and put it in the frig. Out of fear I will eat all the cookie dough, my husband will promptly start baking the cookies!!!
