Feast of St. Francis de Sales

I love St. Francis de Sales.

That's why I'm rerunning the same quotes I've run the last two years on his feast day. And updating with some new ones, too.

He is a Doctor of the Church and patron saint of authors, journalists, and the deaf.

Have a blessed day as you celebrate, and seek to imitate, the holiness of this saint.

"Oh what remorse we shall feel at the end of our lives, when we look back upon the great number of instructions and examples afforded by God and the Saints for our perfection, and so carelessly received by us! If this end were to come to you today, how would you be pleased with the life you have led this year?"
Prayer of St. Francis de Sales

Lord, I am yours,
and I must belong to no one but you.
My soul is yours,
and must live only by you.
My will is yours,
and must love only for you.
I must love you as my first cause,
since I am from you.
I must love you as my end and rest,
since I am for you.
I must love you more than my own being,
since my being subsists by you.
I must love you more than myself,
since I am all yours and all in you. Amen.
"Every moment comes to us pregnant with a command from God, only to pass on and plunge into eternity, there to remain forever what we have made of it."
"Anxiety comes from an irregulated desire to be delivered from the evil we experience. Therefore, above all else, calm and compose your mind. Gently and quietly pursue your aim."

Jennifer loves him, too, and has posted a number of great quotes. I can't find them all so I just Googled for them from her blog and came up with this page for you.

Jen at Et tu? has also posted about him, here.

And one more quote, which I was reminded of thanks to a Catholic writers' list that I'm on:
"Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset."

I do love him. I think it's a precious gift that the Church offers us these different men and women, so devoted to Christ. It seems there is one or two that speak to us in a way that draws us closer to Christ and to the Church. He is my one.

Thanks for the great quotes. I especially like the last one. It seems the perfect reminder for a harried mother like me. :)

Could I maybe ask the good St. to put a rush order on the prayers I've been asking him to pray for say the last 11 years now... I've been trying to not be impatient...........
