You don't need my take, because the wonderful Steven Greydanus has pointed out everything -- yes, everything -- that I thought and felt about the film, from its mild charm to its flaws. Read his review here.
He touches on all my thoughts. Now, I can just point people to this review, and say, "That! What he said!" (Except for watching the cartoon again. I don't care much for the cartoon version, so we'll head straight back to the book.)

Hmmm, that wasn't exactly a glowing review. I had enough reservations already that we will certainly skip this for the time being. Oprah playing a part in the most treasured book of my childhood seems odd to me.
