I've got too much time on my hands

Well, not really. But I did this anyway. You can, too, if you go here. And a hat tip to Another Catholic Mom, who has all sorts of fun widgets and pictures and stuff that I want.

Like this countdown to the next HP movie:

which has inspired me to finally write that post about why we've read the Harry Potter books, what we think of them, and why we're looking forward to Book 7. But, it will have to wait until I have even more time on my hands, and there's no telling when that will be, what with all of this aimless vital web surfing that I'm doing.

I liked the movies well enough till they switched the kids out of the wizard robes and into street clothes. It lost a lot of it's innocence and charm at that point, and lost me as a viewer. I haven't read any of the books, though, and the kids haven't shown any interest them, either.

Karen,
I look forward to your posts on HP. We are looking forward to Book 7 and movie 5, too.

Thanks, Nancy. Now I just have to write them. :-)

Jennie, I'm actually a fan of the books, which I find to be "rattlin' good stories" but the movies -- not so much. I *do* look forward to my kids' excitement over the films, though, and they end up being a shared fun time. HOWEVER, my kids are still not allowed to watch parts of movies 3 and 4. They haven't seen a Potter movie in the theatre, because I haven't allowed them to see one without me previewing it first (which generally means we end up waiting for the DVD.)

There are chunks of books 4-6 that my kids don't read on their own, either. The books and movies have all been shared experiences for us, not something I've let my kids get into on their own. I do know what you mean about them being less innocent later on.
