A happy and blessed St. Joseph day! This painting is by Guido Reni, a 17th century Italian artist, and is entitled, "St. Joseph with the Child in his Arms."
St. Joseph's feast day usually falls on March 19, but since yesterday was a Sunday, the observance of this Solemnity (a feast day which is as "high" a celebration as a Sunday, therefore your Lenten sacrifices aren't required of you today) has been moved to today.

There is a wonderful reading about St. Joseph for today in the March issue of Magnificat. It is by Theresa of Avila and says that making petitions to St. Joseph on his feast day has always brought her great results. I made a very earnest plea to him this morning and am waiting for the results.
St. Joseph seems to me to be the perfect saint for people of relatively hidden sanctity. We never hear a word he says, yet he has the high priviledge of shielding Our Lady and being a father to Jesus. It's too bad that his feast day isn't more well celebrated in this country.
