Science today

Triops have the "Yuck Factor" going for them. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely convinced we'll achieve the Yuck Factor, given our Ramona-start to this project.

Yesterday as we readied the tank, Ramona managed to open the egg container and lose a few (?) of the eggs. She also may have gotten a drop of cold water in there. Uh-oh. These creatures, while high on the Yuck Scale, are also high on the maintenance scale for hatching. Conditions and temperatures must be optimal, or -- guess what? -- no Triops.

Anne is eagerly tracking results in her science notebook. Wish us luck, yuck and crystals (we're trying to grow those, too.)

Wow, these are great.

Your lost eggs remind me of our own baby dropping the contents of half a dozen sterile petri dishes on the floor of the dining room last week. Yikes!

Oh, no, Alice! Science with babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers gives a new meaning to the word "experiment" .... :-0
