Another Free Book!

Today's giveaway is all about the power of prayer.

Last week, in order to win a book, you just had to leave a comment.

This week's giveaway of The Rosary: Keeping Company with Jesus and Mary will be another random drawing from the coffee cup:

But first I'm asking for a little bit of inspiration-sharing.

For this weekend's giveaway, leave a comment on this post telling me:

1. Your favorite prayer (and it doesn't have to be the Rosary in order to win a Rosary book)

or,

2. The name of the saint you regularly turn to for intercession.

And, you don't have to, but if you have a story to share about either of those things, feel free to share it with us.

If you are not Catholic, don't have a favorite formal prayer, or wonder why anyone would ask a saint for intercession,  just leave a comment saying so.

Comments will be open until Monday at noon (central time.)

Let nothing trouble you
Let nothing frighten you
Everything passes
God never changes
Patience obtains all
Whoever has God wants for nothing
God alone is enough

~~ St. Teresa of Avila

I have to admit being a perpetual loser of things that other than the Blessed Mother (a given) I probably turn to St. Anthony more than anyone else, but St. Therese certainly comes in a close second.

As far as favorite prayers are concerned, hands down it's the Anima Christi. It really helps me focus my after communion prayer time.

I've given away all the copies of your book I bought, so I don't even own one anymore.

My favorite prayer: the morning offering every morning and St. Michael the Archangel, plus the end of St. Patrick's breastplate (I bind unto myself today, the strong name of the Trinity...)

Thanks for the chance to win!

So many good prayers from which to choose. Every morning without fail, I head out on my walk at 4:45 saying the morning offering and the prayer to my guardian angel.

My favorite intercessors are the Blessed Mother and my grandmother. :>)

Thanks for the chance!

I am new to Catholicism journeying into full communion through the RCIA program. I am waiting on a declaration of nullity and praying for Gods will.

My favorite prayer lately has been the Evening Prayer to Our Blessed Mother that I found in a wonderful little Catholic Family Prayer Book.

My favorite prayer is probably the Hail Mary. With a general "Heal me, Jesus, help me" a close second!

My favorite intercessors are our Blessed Mother and St. Monica. I call for help in my vocation as wife and mother from both!

The Memorare is the prayer I turn to first.
And, the saint I, my husband and our 6 kids have used as our family's patron saint for the past 4 years is my daughter Fiona May, who died as a baby 4 years ago. In fact, it was The Memorare that we had printed on her funeral prayer cards. I also host a monthly Rosary for the Unborn and for all priests in Fiona's memory.
St. Fiona, Pray for Us!

Favorite prayer is the Memorare and we ask St. Anthony for intercession all the time. I guess we lose things a lot!

One of my favorite prayers is St. Thomas Aquinas's prayer after communion. It is so beautiful!

A saint I frequently turn to for help is St. Anthony. (I wonder why...:)
I also turn to St. Apollonia, because she is the patron saint of teeth!

I have to say my favorite prayer is the Salve Regina, especially when it is chanted.

My favorite prayer is definitely the Mass, but some favorite personal prayers are the Anima Christi, the Memorare, the St. Michael prayer and a prayer to the holy angels for my children.

Mary is my #1 intercessor, but I also love St. Francis de Sales and St. John Vianney.

Thanks for the giveaway, Karen!

Favorite prayer - the morning offering. There's no better way to start the day.

My favorite prayer right now is The Universal Prayer from Pope Clement XI. I also love the St. Michael prayer.

Thanks for the chance to win what looks to be a great book!

My favorite prayers are the ones that are sung. Even the prayers that I can't remember not knowing take on a greater intensity for me when I sing them. I'm not a good singer at all, so this seems odd, but that's how it is. When I need to calm myself, I find that singing the Holy, Holy or the Our Father a few times really helps. I also like to sing prayers as a form of claiming territory for sanctuary--when moving into a new apartment, for instance.

My go-to prayer these days seems to be "Lord, help.....please!" Just so busy and scattered and frazzled. I'm hoping each small step/prayer will lead me on to the next...

"Late have I loved thee, ever ancient, ever new..." from St. Augustine. This prayer is just so intimate.

My favorite prayer is St. Francis of Assisi's Prayer Before the Cross:

Most high, all-glorious, good God,
bring light to the darkness of my heart.
Give me right faith, firm hope, and perfect charity, with wisdom and insight, O Lord, that I might always discern your holy and true will.

My favorite prayer is the prayer of St Francis (Make me a channel of your peace...). For occasions when I have only a second it would be a simple "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
My fav intercessors are St Joseph, St Francis, and my guardian angel.

I have so many favorite prayers, including several already noted here, but as an Anglican, I particularly love many of the prayers in the Book of Common Prayer, including the General Thanksgiving, the morning prayer collects for mission, and the prayer of St. Chrysostom.

Although I don't generally pray to the saints, I feel deeply and truly surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, and I am sure they are praying and praising all the time. I feel particularly close to St. Patrick, Dame Julian, the Venerable Bede, Jack Lewis, and Mother Cabrini (although I'm not Catholic, I worked for and with the Cabrini sisters for several years).

I am currently connected to St. Anne, Mary's mother, as I prepare for the birth of baby #3 and find myself increasingly easily irritated with all things in this last trimester. While it is often difficult for me to identify with Mary, the perfect model of motherhood (she was without sin, after all), I love remembering that St. Anne was not perfect, but she still managed to raise the perfect daughter. St. Anne, pray for me!

Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite prayer actually IS the rosary. :) And the saint I am currently praying to (big time)..well, it's a tie: St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena. And always St. Therese.

Jamie said...

I pray the rosary almost daily, so I love that prayer.

My current favorite prayer is probably the Gloria, especially when sung.

Today I am praying to St. Peregrine for a friend suffering from Cancer. But I also pray to St. Cecilia, not only for her ability to hear angels sing, but also her help in converting my husband into the way of peace.

Favorite prayer -- how to choose?

St. Francis - Make me an instrument of your peace...

St. Patrick - I bind unto myself today...

Ubi caritas - especially when sung, either Taize or Durufle...

And I would love a copy of your book, Karen!
