Poetry Friday: Billy Collins Again, Because I Need Him Today

In "Today," Billy Collins splendiferously evokes the unadulterated joy of that day -- that moment -- when the heart and mind and soul know and believe that Spring has truly landed.

In Nebraska?

Today is not that day.

But I know that day is on the way. So, for today, I give you "Today."

Today
by Billy Collins

If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze

that it made you want to throw
....

P.S.

And just because I love Simon and Garfunkel, I'm also sending you directly to Jama Rattigan's Alphabet Soup, for a review (and giveaway!) of a perfectly delicious picture book bio of the duo.

Long before Spotify and other diabolically convenient methods of indulging musical obsessions were a thing, I used to tell Atticus that balance in the universe could be achieved by a radio station that played All-Simon-and-Garfunkel-All-The-Time.

So. That's that.

Happy Poetry Friday.

Happy Dreaming of Spring.

Happy Sounds of Silence.

We have had a few of "that kind of day", yet it is iffy I know, here in March. Yet we can celebrate as Billy Collins does whenever we can! I shared the Simon & Garfunkel book this past week, too & agree that everyone should read Jama's post. I love that you want just an S & G radio station! Thanks for the happy post, Karen.

Thanks for the Billy Collins fix -- what a GLORIOUS poem! Hope you get one of those perfect spring days very soon, Karen.

And of course I LOVE your idea of an all S&G radio station. I agree that it would set so many things right in the universe. Thanks for the link love, too! A-a-a-pril -- come she will . . .

We had a spring day so perfect - about 3 weeks ago! Then winter came back with 3 giant storms...ugh. Bu thank you for perking up our day with this, Karen!

This is indeed a splendiferous poem! We've had a day or two almost like that, but spring is teasing us here in Indiana as we are preparing for a winter storm that might give us our largest snowfall yet--on the first day of spring, no less! Oh well, the crocuses and daffodils assure me that spring will come.

Thanks for a much-needed dose of Billy Collins! Let's definitely let those inhabitants out of the snow globe. (The East Coast probably feels like that's them! We are expecting more tonight in Ohio!)
