National Poetry Month Turns 20!

It's National Poetry Month (the twentieth anniversary!) and Poets.org can tell you all about it, along with ideas on how to celebrate.

Today I'm sharing another Jim Harrison* poem, "Winter, Spring." It's fitting, I think, for the March we had here in Nebraska. I love the simplicity and truth of these lines:

Each year it is a surprise
that the world can turn green again.

Go to The Writer's Almanac to read the whole poem.

Yes, what a grand surprise. And the greening seems so sudden. Happy Poetry Month!

Love the ending - how they fly right past their admirer!

Like Matt, I love the ending, with the birds flying right past his open arms!

Oh yes. That ending. It makes you laugh exultant loud. Thanks for sharing. Even in Australia (having recently gone through our greening) I can relate so well to this!

Yes, I love that ending so much, too! It's perfection.

I, too, love the ending, and the humor of it. "Birds coming back from the south to my open/ arms, which they fly past, aiming at the feeders." I often feel that way about nature, aside from it, an observer, but not really part and parcel.
