Poetry Friday: George Bilgere Ruminates on Unwise Purchases

George Bilgere, oh, how I love you. For lines like this:

a woman who has always dreamed of becoming
the kind of woman the man I've always dreamed of becoming
has always dreamed of meeting.

That's from "Unwise Purchases." It looks like a longish poem for Poetry Friday, but you'll zip through it because it's so personable, as a Bilgere poem is and should be.

Read it here, at The Writer's Almanac.

The round up is being hosted today by the blithesome Jama Rattigan at Jama's Alphabet Soup.

Thank you, Karen! This is my favorite poem of the day!! Made me smile and laugh, and sigh over the romanticism. So very clever. Must read more Bilgere!

P.S. I'm also relieved I'm not the only one who's made those unwise purchases :D. Unread books don't count, though, right?

Saved this, Karen. Thanks :-) You're right -- it's long, but not arduous.

It's hilarious. I wrote about being happy today, and like Jama said, this is worth savoring, reading aloud, & laughing big. Thanks so much for bringing it to us, Karen.

He has such a sly way with language and humor - loved this!

Jama, unread books never count! :)
Tabatha, yes, worth the save (and the read.)
Linda, yes, I thought it was hilarious, too, and Tara, "sly" is exactly the word I thought of for his humor as well!

Oh my, I LOVE this poem! Especially the allusion to the cassette tapes and their hanky panky. I have a whole crate full of cassette tapes I haven't looked at in ages (including some French language ones, I believe)... I should probably be worried.

I love it! It's so true that we make these unwise purchases because we'd like to be the kind of person that owns those things.

Ruth, yes. :)

Michelle, I still have a bunch of cassette tapes, too. I actually also still drive a car that plays cassette tapes. :)
