The Only Trouble With Going to a Used Book Sale

... is that I'll buy books.

and a few more books.

And, if you were to peek over in that corner in my living room (try to look past the dog hair -- I do need to vacuum), you'd see another stack of books.

Apparently I was compelled to purchase more books -- more old, new books --  to fill the spaces left behind by the five grocery sacks of books I had just gathered up for Goodwill.

They are my one material weakness. I don't care what kind of car I drive, my furniture is creaky, my clothes are just here to offer coverage, and jewelry? Well, Atticus knows better than to buy me jewelry.

But books?

Complete Sucker, thy name is Karen.

Me too. I almost don't even feel guilty anymore.

I bring them home like a mother hen. my big problem isn't accumulating more, but finding more bookshelf space.

I know what you mean about the non-guilt, Jenn. :)

Jennifer, that's where the Big Decluttering Sessions come in to play at our house. Still, it's hard to give BOOKS away. :)

Yup, I can totally identify. Getting a Kindle has slowed things down a bit (I can't even imagine finding a place on the bookshelves for all the titles I have on my Kindle!)! I have a bedroom with 5 book cases (two of them floor to ceiling variety) and I still have piles of books on the bureau, on the floor on the nightstand. I have 4 book cases in the computer room, two in the living room, one in the kitchen (and that doesn't count the cupboard that's full of books), one in the guest room, and a table in one bathroom that essentially doubles as a book case since it has a shelf plus a stack of books underneath it. My husband worries that there's too much book weight in our attic. I do get rid of books at least yearly, but I have a hard time parting with too many. I will say I feel somewhat justified in having saved books now that we have a grandchild. What fun it's been to drag out Isabelle and the Library Cat, Make Way For Ducklings, Blueberries for Sal, Miffy Sleeps Over, Katy and the Big Snow, etc., etc., etc. and get to enjoy them with yet another little girl.

Liz -- I'm feeling SO much less guilty! Buying a board book of "Going on a Bear Hunt" for my then 13 year old -- it's really for the grandchildren! Only thing is, I've run out of room for bookcases. Just have to make myself avoid those sales!

Oh dear...meet your sister..and her husband!! We have just invested in a HUGE bookcase to try and tackle the overflow, that is after the two we bought last year. I love those vintage children's books, I'd have bought them too. (my downfall is the Amazon external sellers, gorgeous old books for 10c

Right there with you, sister! I usually don't feel bad about it. That is, until it's time to move. Books are so heavy.

Hehe, that Barbie book lived at my grandparents' house, and I remember reading it every time we visited...
