Poetry Friday: Ramona Inspires Me

A quick, original poem this morning. Not great as poetry, but heartfelt.

The round up is at Becky's Book Reviews.

I Know Your Name

Promise me
something?
I asked
my daughter
my dear
my six year old
girl.
Her eyes inquired.
I said,
That you'll never grow up?
And you'll stay
on this couch
beside me
forever?
I wish I could,
she said,
and lay her head
on my shoulder.
But, I don't really
wish that,
I told her.
Growing up
is fun
and I want you
to know
growing up and
I want you
to have
that fun.
She smiled
and her elegance
reminded me
of something.
Her face, and
her smile
and my shoulder
and her pink
toenails
reminded me.
Her middle
name
is
Hope.

Sigh. So lovely, Karen! I love "her eyes inquired." I can just picture you two sitting together and talking.

Did you share this with your daughter? :-)

Grown up me just spent a month with my 82 year-old mother. The tables turned and turned and turned: who was mothering, who was the child?

I don't know if I've ever commented here (though I check in often) but I had to tell you how much I loved this poem.

My own little girl just turned 7, and this encapsulates so much of how I feel right now as I watch her grow and change.

Incidentally, she loves the Ramona books. :-) Although I simply call her "sweet girl" on my blog, for the past year or so she has called herself Ramona. She makes up stories about Ramona, and has a stuffed bear she takes everywhere whom she has named Beezus. So it always makes me smile when I see you use this name for you daughter!

Thanks, everyone, and yes, I shared it with Ramona! :) Mary Lee, your comment made me tear up a bit. And, Beth, I'm so pleased to hear of another Ramona. :)
