The Read-Aloud Legacy

I've been seeing it in action in our home. And it does this reading mother's heart good.

Overheard/seen recently:

Anne-with-an-e: "Y'know, Mom, I plan to read aloud to my children someday."

Betsy: "Mom, while you braid my hair, can I read Redwall to everyone?"

Ramona: "Mommy? Will you read to me?"

Ramona: "Mommy? Will you read to me?"

Ramona: "Mommy? Will you read to me?"

Also, in the "delightful" category:

Anne often reads to Betsy before they go to sleep at night.

Anne is reading a recent favorite -- Sara Lewis Holmes' Letters from Rapunzel -- to a long-distance friend of hers. Over the phone. Because the friend can't find the book at her library.

How fun is that?

Life is good.

I can think of few things I enjoy more than reading to my girls. I never tire of it. To be able to help them learn to read and enjoy books and hear them read to their sisters---pure bliss.
