Happy (Baptismal) birthday to me

March 11, 1990:

Event:

Karen baptized by an Episcopal priest (a perfectly lovely man who in no way pressured her to join the Episcopal church, which she was not ready to do. She knew only one thing: "I must be baptized." Happily, Fr. Spencer obliged.)

Guests:

Atticus, of course (though he had said in the preceding months that this Christian stuff was fine with him, as long as it didn't affect our lives.)

Friend Jack, who drove a few hundred miles to be there (and was later present for my reception into the Catholic Church, and even later, present with his wife at Atticus's reception into the Church.)

Hmph.

I guess it affected our lives.

And, since today is a little Easter, we shall celebrate the effects of this Christian stuff with great joy.

Happy second birthday! My you are still nearly a babe in arms aren't you. My baptism happened in a brook in Vermont in 1960 by an Assemblies of God preacher who probably would have left me under a little too long if he'd had any idea I would later become a Catholic. My kids, of course were baptized as babies in the U.C.C. Of course that's why they are older in the faith than you. We're going to have to wait for the next generation for some actual cradle Catholics. You at least have the joy of raising one.

So are you having a cake? Did they get you presents?

Congratulations! I had no idea you had such an interesting story. I guess I need to poke around more in your archives.

Happy Baptismal Day! (We call it a spiritual birthday at our house, and of course the kids expect gifts!)

What a wonderful idea, to remember and celebrate the anniversary of your Baptism!

I can really relate to Atticus' take on the whole thing, we were there not too long ago. I think my husband is resigned to the fact that it has changed our family (and really, resignation is too negative of a word because he sees how much better I am and our family life is now and he's glad for it) but I'm pretty sure he's still thinking that this Christian stuff is fine with him, so long as it doesn't affect his own life. *grin*

Congratulations on this happy day!

Forgot to mention, Liz, that no, we don't do presents, but the brownies were enjoyed by all. :-)

And, Amber, we just won't tell your husband how MUCH things may change .... ;-)
